:s1:
I think it'll be really useful to have a list of names of Sunni ** ulama from the UK who are either native English speakers or who speak English at a fluent or native level and are resident here. Here are a few I know of but I'm sure there are others:
1. Allama Arshad Misbahi (Victoria Park Mosque, Manchester)
2. Allama Munawwar Ateeq
3. Allama Zain al Aqtab Siddiqi and his brothers.
4. Allama Muhammad Hanif Naqshbandi
5. Allama Irfan Chishti
6. The brother who used to come on Islam TV and is Indian with an orange amaamah.
7. Pir Saqib Shami
8. Ahmad Thomson
9. Shaykh Abd al Hakim Murad
10. Isa Waley (?)
11. Aisha Bewley
12. Allama Zahoor Chishti
who else is there? My list is pretty desi-centric but i am sure there must be other Sunni scholars from other ethnicities such as Arabs, Turks, Africans, Caucasians (nearly wrote Devils there!! ;-)) in the UK of whom we're not aware...
and, more importantly, these bredwins should be invited as main speakers at all Sunni events in the UK and on the TV channels instead of the usual suspects.
**noto bene:for those who still don't get it this EXCLUDES Deobandis and their ilk like Riyadh al Haq, Ahmed Ali etc.

Good thread.Definetely agree in that our English speaking 'ulama should be given a slot at our gatherings. I'd like to add Shaykh Saleem Ghisa from Preston who is a brilliant speaker. You can hear some of his speeches on the following site:
http://www.islamieducation.com/en/speeches/shaykh-muhammad-salim.html
Theres' also some very good speakers from Dawate Islami as well. Theres a few clips on utube.

no, they're not brothers. misbahi denotes their connection to al-jamiatu'l ashrafia (http://aljamiatulashrafia.org/), mubarakpur, india. the university was first known as misbah al-'ulum.

alhamdulillah!on the 01-08-09 we had the honor of welcoming allama arshad misbahi to s.a. A young dynamic resonant vibrant speaker who eloquently eleborated on his topic and speaking fluent english is indeed a rare commodity.apparently he came last year and gave an awe inspiring lectuer ppl were spellbound.the organizers had to call him again due to public demand.only problem he delivered the same lecture as last years one. bit disappointed though he is a gr8 speaker hey!
has anyone got his e-mail add?or website
whats his name?
Bakhtyar H. Pirzada al-Azhari.
I recall watching a video of His Eminence MIH Pirzada entitled 'Could the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Read?', and his son translated the lecture succintly in English.
In fact....here is the link:

Can somebody post a bit more info on Shaykh Rashid Attari al Madani. It begs the question when we have so many young English speakers why they are not given the platform to engage with the youth.

Can you give more info on Asrar Rashid - ie his background, where he studied etc. Is there any biography on him? How did he become shaykh-ul-hadith?

Allama Rashid AL Madani born in Blackburn, went to Madani Markaz Karachi at the age of 16, studied for 8 years, completed Dars Nizami, had Dastar Bandi done by Ameer-e-Ahle-Sunnat (May His Sayaa remain upon us). Now teaches Dars Nizami at Faizan-e-Madina Accrington.
I know this brother very well, when he came back after graduating he was sent to Nottingham to be the imam of Islamic Centre, Main Masjid of Nottingham. He was with us for a year. MashAllah he is a very simple and humble Preacher of Islam. In fact the Comitee terminated his contract because he wouldnt scream and shout in his speeches. His speeches are full of ilm and wisdom and he does Arabic speeches at the UK Level Ijtimas

Why doesn't that surprise me. The juhala have been placed in charge of the masajid and this is probably the biggest factor for the lack of progressiveness of sunnis.

Its very sad, alot of youngsters would come to learn from him, even had uni students that would come specially to him for answers regarding what they heard at the najdi talks in unis

As for Sayyidi Shaykh Rashid al-Madani, he truly is a Wali of Allah ta`ala and an excellent `aalim. His student informed me that Sayyidi Shaykh Rashid al-Madani has entire books memorized by heart and is extremely soft-spoken and humble.

I´m amazed that we have so many English speaking ulama! That´s great but begs the question: why aren´t they at every major Sunni programme like the Urdu speaking ones? Also, we need to start having programmes entirely in English. Thirdly, the Deobandits like Riyadh and Ahmad Ali have lots of cassettes released. We need the talks of these Sunnis to be made available as CDs, mp3s, etc. for "sale in all good Islamic bookshops near you" (!) and online.

i´m listening to a speech of mufti zahid hussain (thanks for the link) but what infuriates me is why such fluent English speaking Sunnis are told to only speak for "ten minutes" whereas shouting and screaming Urdu/Punjabi speakers get the full hour.
I am reminded of Manchester Victoria Park mosque when Allama Arshad Misbahi would get 10 minutes and then Muzammal Shah would get the rest of the time!

The speech you are talking about was done in Holland, and most of the mehfil was dedicated to Huzoor Muhaddith E Kabeer Allamah Zia Ul Mustafa Qadri's speech.
